As we stay home to better navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and its detrimental effects, the routine of getting up and getting ready for the day is a concept that has been lost to many of us. Our days continue to blur in and out, with sweatpants and baggy tees being our main form of self-expression. The biggest problem with these relaxed fashion choices is that they are often a reflection of our overall happiness and mental health.
Although donning a pair of daytime pajamas is not problematic when done in moderation, doing so every day can leave us in a slump. The good news is that you don’t have to submit to quarantine. Instead, make quarantine your time and dress for success with these five tips for making quarantine life feel more glamorous.
1. Find clothing that makes you feel great
Our clothes are heavily tied to our sense of identity and self. When we lose the ability to dress up and go out into the world, it can be easy to let your sense of fashion fall to the wayside. The most important thing to remember while you are under quarantine is that, while you may not be in control of the world around, you are in control of how you respond to it. If you feel like getting dressed up, starting some new hobbies, and living a life that makes you happy, do it! Break out the clothes that make you feel great about yourself and plan out your outfits for the week. If you need any more clothes, break out the credit card and get to online shopping. You can be glam and happy all on your own. Dress for yourself!
2. Feel free to experiment with makeup
During the hustle and bustle of daily life, we rarely get a chance to experiment with our fashion and our look. Instead, we find something that is comfortable, safe, and just roll with it. This is especially true when it comes to makeup that we wear regularly. Unless you have a host of online meetings to attend, now is the perfect time to experiment with your makeup. This can include ideas such as:
- Working with new eye shadows (you may find different colors and shades that match with different outfits or just look great on you)
- Finding new lipsticks or glosses that you like
- Trying your hand at DIY magnetic lashes (now is the perfect time to try out false eyelashes if you typically just have your natural lashes and some mascara. This will give you some time to adjust to the lash glue, figure out how to put the lash strip on, and help you improve your routine for putting magnetic lashes on.)
- Seeking out new beauty products that you have been wanting to try
While you are in quarantine, you might as well use your time to find new looks that you love.
3. Look for accessories that Really tie your look together
Nothing adds more glam to an outfit than the right accessory. However, in these difficult times, we may be changing the way that we shop and how it impacts the world around us. For example, we may want great diamond jewelry but will also want to make sure that we are only purchasing from a jeweler that is responsible and eco-conscious. One solution is to purchase jewelry that contains lab grown diamonds. Agape’s lab-grown diamonds, for example, utilize cutting-edge technology to produce a gemstone that’s near-identical to a natural diamond.
4. Seek out different styles for different areas of your life
Glam isn’t limited to fancy events or parties. You can be glam doing absolutely anything. For example, if you currently work from home, consider creating glam business outfits that you can use on online meetings and when you are out of quarantine. If you spend a lot of time cooking your own meals, find glam kitchen outfits that make cooking a ritual. If you’re taking up new hobbies like gardening, crafting, or dancing, for example, look for outfits that would go (and feel) great for these activities. Look for outfits that get you through every area of your life and make you feel great along the way.
5. Try different looks that you may have not considered before
Much like experimenting with makeup gives you the opportunity to find new styles, so too does try on different outfits and styles while you are at home. If you’re accustomed to wearing more plain colors, trying going out of your comfort zone and rocking something more colorful. If you generally wear colorful outfits, try something more plain but sophisticated. Working with something new can bring something fresh and exciting to your wardrobe that you may have not realized was missing.
While quarantining does mean that we are spending more time alone, that doesn’t mean that we can’t do things that make us happy. If you have been looking to get out of your slump and back into the excitement of your life, use the five tips listed above to make quarantine life more glamorous.
